trusting the journey.

as i reflect on these past three years in DC, especially my time the last three years at joseph's house, i feel a lot. a lot of sadness and joy, a lot of apprehension about what will come as well as overwhelming gratitude for all that i have lived, learned, all those i have loved and who have loved me. leaving joseph's house feels huge, even though i've left it in several ways in the past year - moving out, paring back to one day a week, starting school. even so, joseph's house has been a place of such incredible depth and growth and love, like my soulmate job. i know i'll carry what i've learned always; it is a part of me now. and as i step out of this place and into another, i want to continue to trust that in the journey, i am and will continue to be changed, molded, and become more and more fully who i am and part of the work of healing and love in the world.

one of my soul sisters shared this poem with me tonight, and i want to pass it on because i find it to be true and beautiful.

"Trust in the Slow Work of God"- Pierre Teihard de Chardin

Above all, trust in the slow work of God.
We are quite naturally impatient in everything
to reach the end without delay.
We should like to skip the intermediate stages.

We are impatient of being on the way
to something unknown,
something new.
Yet it is the law of all progress that is made
by passing through some stages of instability
and that may take a very long time.

And so I think it is with you.
Your ideas mature gradually. Let them grow.
Let them shape themselves without undue haste.
Do not try to force them on
as though you could be today what time
- that is to say, grace and circumstances acting on your own good will -
will make you tomorrow.

Only God could say what this new Spirit
gradually forming in you will be.

Give our Lord the benefit of believing
that God's hand is leading you,
and accept the anxiety of feeling yourself
in suspense and incomplete.

Above all, trust in the slow work of God.
